American Idols

Taylor Hicks, the raspy-voiced performer who calls his fans “the Soul Patrol,” was announced last Wednesday night as the new American Idol in the top-rated talent show “American Idol” on Fox television network. Hicks, 29, beat out Katherine McPhee, a 22-year-old singer trained at the Boston Conservatory, winning a recording contract in the show's fifth season.  Hicks took the majority of a record 63.4 million fan votes, according to host Ryan Seacrest.

But, Taylor Hicks isn’t the only American idol....

Other American (even worldly) idols include: materialism, love of leisure, sensuality, worship of self, and many others.

By definition: An IDOL is anything that separates a person from God.
We were created to worship and serve God, but many have redirected their worship
to idols. What is the object of our affections, our efforts, and our attention? Where does the majority of our time go? On what do we spend the greatest amount of our resources?  The answers to these questions will reveal the idols that we worship.

The problem with "idols"  is that they are powerless to save us and to give us the truly abundant life now and eternal life to come!

Long ago the Lord challenged a people who had been engrossed in idolatry: "Assemble yourselves and come; Draw near together, You who have escaped from the nations. They have no knowledge, who carry the wood of their carved image and pray to a god that cannot save … There is NO other God besides Me, A just God and a Savior; There is NONE besides Me” (Isaiah 45:20-21).

Don’t be duped by idolatry!  Cast your idols aside and acknowledge the One true Living God, the only Savior.  He is THE God who loved us so much that He gave His Son to die on the cross for our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21).  He is the only One who can save us and give us life. “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:11-12).

“He who has the Son has LIFE.”  He who has the Son is he who places their trust in Him (Acts 16:30-31), turns from sin and idolatry to Christ in repentance (2 Corinthians 7:9-10), confesses Christ before men (Romans 10:9-10), and is baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:26-27).  He who has the Son is he who continues to follow Him for the rest of his life (1 John 1:7).

Yes, America and the rest of the world has its "idols" - Unfortunately, these "idols" will not SAVE us in the end.  God is the ONLY Savior!

Won’t YOU trust and obey Him?

God bless you!
