Who Has
Impacted Your Life from Creekwood?
This
question was recently posed to our church family, the Creekwood church
of Christ. There were many wonderful responses. Here is Nelly
Eddlemon’s response:
When
David asked us to pick a person that had influenced our lives, I knew it
was going to be a difficult task. There are so many people throughout
my life that had done just that. Some have already passed and some are
living. Many of them are sitting on these pews: from family members to
friends, brothers and sisters in Christ.

Beyond
the funny stories and the wonderful memories we shared with him and
Shelby… Beyond the time we spent together at each other’s houses, and
all the things we did… My favorite thing to do was sitting and talking
with this great man of God: wisdom and knowledge wrapped up in love. I
have learned so much from him. He was completely given to the Lord and
a true servant. He was like a father to me and I loved him like one.
He loved Michael and me, and cared for us as if we were his own
children. He was the dearest of friends. He was our role model, our
mentor. It is because of him that I will continue to “water the flowers
and not the weeds” in all my relationships - today and everyday as I
walk through life, until the day we meet again.

The
second person that has been a great influence in my life is my husband,
Michael. He has shown me how to be persistent and to continue going
even if everything looks like an impossible task. He’s demonstrated to
me how to be dedicated, strong, and courageous; to serve and to give of
yourself even when you think you have given it all, because if you dig a
little deeper there’s always more to give. He’s shown me what hard work
looks like and to do good always – even if your good is evil spoken of.
He has taught me to fearlessly and passionately love and talk about our
Lord, our Faith, and our Salvation. But most importantly he lovingly
guided me and led me to Christ. Is there anything more amazing than
that?
The answer
to Nelly’s last question is “No!” There is nothing more amazing than
for a person to lead another to Christ. Why is that true?
Because… in our sin, we are desperately lost.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)
and “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). We cannot save ourselves
by our own merits. We need someone to come to our rescue.
Because… Jesus is our amazing Savior.
He paid the price for our redemption by dying on the cross for our
sins. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of
sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7).
Because… the spiritual blessings that are found in Christ are wonderful.
Some of those blessings include peace that surpasses all understanding
(Philippians 4:6-7), inexpressible joy (1 Peter 1:8), an eternal home in
heaven (1 Peter 1:3-4), and a church family (Ephesians 2:19) in which
lives are impacted for good and for eternity.
God will
save from sin, give eternal life, and add to His family those who place
their
faith
and trust in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31), turn from their sins in repentance
(Acts 17:30-31),
confess
Jesus before men (Romans 10:9-10), and are
baptized
(immersed) into Christ for the
forgiveness
of sins (Acts 2:38). He will continue to cleanse from sin those who
continue to walk in the light of His Word (1 John 1:7-9).
Is there
someone who is striving to lead you to Jesus and to grow in Him? Thank
God for that person and follow their lead. You will not regret it!
