Climbing 35 stories and reaching 745 feet in height, the
Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA) Battle House Tower in Mobile,
Alabama, is the tallest building in the state.
The RSA Tower
made national news earlier this week. The height of the building was a
factor in the news story. A window washer got stuck on the exterior of
the building just below the 33rd story. His equipment jammed leaving
him dangling outside the building more than 450 feet above ground.
The window
washer and a co-worker called 911 for help. Mobile Fire-Rescue
responded. Rescue personnel set up a rope system with a pulley on the
roof of the 35th story. A rescuer was lowered down to the stranded
window washer. The rescuer attached the window washer’s harness to the
pulley system, and the man was hoisted to safety, unharmed. *
Because of
our sin, we are left in a helpless and deadly position. We don’t have
the personal resources to save ourselves. Only outside intervention
will save us.
God, the One
who has been sinned against, loves us and desires to save us (1 Timothy
2:4). God sent His Son Jesus to rescue us (read Philippians 2:5-8).
Jesus “descended” to us to bring us to safety. His “descent” required
His death on the cross to atone for our sins (1 John 2:2). Through
Jesus’ atoning death, we can have the forgiveness of our sins and
receive the gift of eternal life (Ephesians 1:7; Romans 6:23).
God will save and give eternal life to those who
place their faith
and trust in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31), turn from
their sins in repentance
(Acts 17:30-31), confess
Jesus before men (Romans 10:9-10), and are
baptized
(immersed) into Christ for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38). He will
continue to cleanse from sin those who continue to walk in the light of
His Word (1 John 1:7-9).
What happened
to the window washer in the city where I live reflects the spiritual
condition of every person in the world: we are in a jam and cannot save
ourselves. But God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to rescue us.
Jesus “gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this
present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father”
(Galatians 1:4).
And He will
rescue YOU, if you will simply trust and obey Him.
