Older than Dirt! One
day a group of scientists got together and decided
that man had advanced in his knowledge to the place
where he no longer needed God. So they picked one
scientist to go and tell Him that they were done with
Him. The
scientist approached God and said, "God, we've
decided that we no longer need you.
We have evolved to the point that we can now
clone people and do many miraculous things on our own.
So, thanks for everything, but we’ll take it
from here!” God listened very patiently and kindly to the man and after the scientist had finished, God said, "Very well, how about this, let us have a man making contest." To which the scientist replied, "OK, great!" But God added, "Now, we're going to do this just like I did back in the old days with Adam." The
scientist said, "Sure, no problem" and
bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt. God
just looked at him and said, "No, no, no. . .
Go get your OWN dirt!" * So, where DID dirt originate? How did the universe come into being? It is an established law of science (first law of thermodynamics) that matter and energy can be neither created nor destroyed. Something cannot come from nothing; something can only come from something. That “Something” which created the universe is GOD! “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). God said through the prophet Isaiah: “You forget the LORD your Maker, Who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth” (Isaiah 51:13). “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” (Hebrews 11:3). God created “dirt” -- as well as ALL matter and ALL life! When we accept by faith the fact that God created the universe, then we can also understand the purpose of life. Only the Creator of life understands the purpose of life, and the Creator has communicated life’s purpose through His Word. God the Creator has revealed through His Word that He desires that each of us be “re-created” in Christ. Our sin prevents us from fulfilling His will for our lives (Isaiah 59:1-2). But “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Through Jesus, our sins can be forgiven (Ephesians 1:7). WHEN
WE: believe
in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31), turn from our sins in repentance
(Acts 17:30-31), confess
Jesus before men (Romans 10:9-10), and are baptized
(immersed) into Christ (Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:27), THEN
WE: become “new creatures” in Him Our purpose is to live for the One who created us and gave His Son to die for us, that we might live with Him forever! Have YOU realized the Creator’s purpose for your life? Won’t you submit to Him in trusting obedience? David
