Always
Learning
Some
predictions made in the past have proved to be wrong:
-
"Computers in the future
may weigh no more than 1.5 tons." -- Popular
Mechanics, 1949
-
"I think there is a world
market for maybe five computers." – Thomas
Watson, Chairman of IBM, 1943
-
"There is no reason
anyone would want a computer in their home."
– Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of
Digital Equipment Corp., 1977
-
"This 'telephone' has too
many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a
means of communication. The device is inherently
of no value to us." -- Western Union internal
memo, 1876.
-
"Heavier-than-air flying
machines are impossible." – Lord Kelvin,
president, Royal Society, 1895.
Man
has certainly increased in knowledge through the
years!
Someone
has estimated that, if all of man's accumulated
knowledge from the beginning of recorded history to
1845 were represented by one inch, what he learned
from 1845 until 1945 would amount to three inches and
what he learned from 1945 until 1975 would represent
the height of the Washington Monument!
Can you imagine the “height” of knowledge
today?
George
Seimens has written: “Knowledge is growing
exponentially. In many fields the life of knowledge is
now measured in months and years.”* Then he quotes
Gonzalez who describes the challenges of rapidly
diminishing knowledge life:
“One
of the most persuasive factors is the shrinking
half-life of knowledge. The ‘half-life of
knowledge’ is the time span from when knowledge is
gained to when it becomes obsolete. Half of what is
known today was not known 10 years ago. The amount of
knowledge in the world has doubled in the past 10
years and is doubling every 18 months according to the
American Society of Training and Documentation (ASTD).”
*
Observe,
however, this prophetic description of mankind today:
They are ALWAYS learning but NEVER able to come to the knowledge of
the TRUTH (2 Timothy 3:7).
We
can know a lot and yet not know the most important
things!
The
TRUTH is… We have a
SIN problem! "For ALL
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
(Romans 3:23). "The wages of sin is death"
(Romans 6:23).
The
TRUTH is… God LOVES
us so much that He gave His Son to save us from our
sin.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward
us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died
for us" (Romans 5:8).
If we will accept His offer of salvation on His
terms, we can be saved!
We
accept His offer through: faith
(Acts 16:31), repentance
(Acts 17:30-31), confession
of Christ (cp. Matthew 10:32), and baptism
(immersion) into Christ for the forgiveness of sins
(Acts 2:38; 22:16). We CONTINUE to be cleansed from
our sins as we CONTINUE to walk in the light of
God’s Word (1 John 1:7).
Keep
learning! Who
knows what man will come up with next....
But,
be sure you KNOW and OBEY the TRUTH about Jesus, for
only THIS TRUTH can make you free (John 8:32).
