After the Storm

Sixteen-year-old Riley Leon of Elgin, TX was on his way home from an interview at a nearby Whataburger when he was swept up in a storm, literally.  The red Chevy Silverado pickup truck that he was driving was knocked over on its side and spun around by a tornado.  Perhaps you saw the video on the news or on social media.  Brian Emfinger, a storm chaser and photo journalist, captured the incident.

Amazingly, the video shows how the tornadic winds also turned the truck right side up and Leon drove away!

Leon believed he had only suffered some scratches and bruises, however not long after the incident he began suffering back pain.  Scans have revealed a fracture in his back.  A GoFundMe page was established by one of his schoolteachers to raise funds for his medical care.

Leon’s truck was severely damaged.  Pictures of the truck reveal dents and scrapes and the windows of the truck were blown out.

But Leon received a wonderful gift.  Chevrolet and one of its dealers, Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet of Fort Worth, TX, donated a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT All Star Edition in Cherry Red to Leon and his family.

Leon is thankful for his new truck and even more thankful that he is alive to enjoy it. “I am thankful to God for giving me another chance in this life,” he said in an interview. *

Because we live in this world, we will encounter storms.  Jesus warned His disciples, “In the world you will have tribulation” (John 16:33).  Sometimes we encounter storms through no fault of our own.  At other times, the “storms” that we endure are of our own making – the consequences of bad choices.

But because God loves us, He has something better for us, if we’ll accept His offer on His terms.  No, it’s not a new pickup, but it is a new life (2 Corinthians 5:17) – and eternal life.

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Christ died on the cross for our sins so that we can be redeemed from sin and receive the gift of eternal life (Ephesians 1:7; John 3:16).

God will save and give new life to those who place their faith and trust in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31), turn from their sins in repentance (Acts 17:30-31), confess Jesus before men (Romans 10:9-10), and are baptized (immersed) into Christ for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38).  He will continue to cleanse from sin those who continue to walk in the light of His Word (1 John 1:7-9).

After the storms of life, something “far better” awaits the faithful child of God (Philippians 1:23): it is the gift of eternal life in heaven (Revelation 21:3-4).  You can’t earn it; it’s a gift.  But it must be accepted on His terms.

Won’t YOU?
