When a house near her home was put up for sale, Susan
Marie Smuzinsky of Newfield, New Jersey, went to see it. At first she
was just curious, but then she loved it and decided to try to purchase
it.
“As soon as I walked in [to view it] I
felt at home,” she told FOX News. “I kept thinking if someone else gets
it my heart will be broken and I'll have to move because I won't be able
to see anyone else in it.” Smuzinsky was able to purchase the home.
Smuzinsky knew a little bit about the
previous owners. “We knew them but not well,” she said, noting the area
is very rural. “They were the second owners of the home and bought the
house in 1971,” she said. “The husband passed away from cancer and the
wife went into a nursing home a few years later.”
The previous owners had left a message
for the new owners. It wasn’t discovered until a few weeks after
Smuzinsky moved into the home.
“My daughter was putting things away and
saw it,” reported Smuzinsky. “I got goosebumps and honestly a bit
teary-eyed.”
The message was handwritten on the inside
of the pantry wall. The message read: “This home has many wonderful
memories. We loved, laughed, cried, and played here. We pray you will,
too. God bless.” *
What messages would you like to
leave for others?
Here are some messages from my family and
me:
1. Put the big rocks in first.
The idea, based on an illustration by
Stephen Covey, is that if your life is compared to a large-mouth jar, be
sure to put the “big rocks” – the most important things – in first.
Some of the “big rocks” are God, family, and the church. “Seek first
the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33).
2. Cherish your family.
Do your best to make your house a home that is filled with love,
laughter, tears, and fun. Family is one of God’s greatest blessings.
Make the most of the time that you have with your family. Make warm and
lasting memories.
3. Follow Jesus.
He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one goes to the Father
except through Him (John 14:6). He is the Greatest Example so follow in
His steps (1 Peter 2:21). He is the Provider of the abundant life now
and eternal life to come (John 10:10). He is the One who died on the
cross for our sins so that we can receive God’s gracious forgiveness and
the gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23).
God will save and give eternal life to those who place
their faith and trust in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31), turn from their sins in
repentance (Acts 17:30-31), confess Jesus before men (Romans 10:9-10),
and are baptized (immersed) into Christ for the forgiveness of sins
(Acts 2:38). He will continue to cleanse from sin those who continue to
walk in the light of His Word (1 John 1:7-9).
In addition to love, laughter, and fun, make faith and
following Jesus the supreme messages to those who will come after you.
You will not regret it and many lives will be blessed because you chose
to put the big rocks in first.
