Kimberly Waterbury, and her 95-year-old
mother, Dottie Schneider, of Chandler, Indiana, traveled to Orange
Beach, Alabama, earlier this month to vacation on the beach.
They encountered a problem: Schneider
uses a wheelchair and her daughter couldn’t push the chair onto the
beach. A lifeguard of the Beach Safety Division in the City of Orange
Beach observed the dilemma and offered Schneider a ride in his beach
patrol vehicle. When she accepted, he drove her onto the beach to the
chair set they had rented. Then the lifeguard carried Schneider from
the vehicle to her shaded chair.
The lifeguard gave Schneider the field
office number so she could call for assistance whenever she wanted to go
to the beach. Every day for one week, lifeguards met Schneider to help
her down to her beach chairs. At day’s end, they would escort her back
to her condo. They were happy to provide the service for her.
“We are forever indebted to the guys with
Orange Beach Surf Rescue,” Waterbury, visibly moved, told AL.com.
“They made my mother feel special. She was not made to feel like she
was a burden on anybody.” *
When we were weighed down with the burden
of our sins, unable to help ourselves, Jesus came to our rescue. He
took the burden of our sins upon Himself and died on the cross so that
we can receive forgiveness and the gift of eternal life.
“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die
to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed”
(1 Peter 2:24 NIV).
“You see, at just the
right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man
someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love
for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans
5:6-8 NIV).
God will take away the burden of sin and give
eternal life to those who place their
faith and trust in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31),
turn from their sins in repentance
(Acts 17:30-31),
confess Jesus
before men (Romans 10:9-10), and are
baptized (immersed) into Christ for the
forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38). He will continue to cleanse from sin
those who continue to walk in the light of His Word (1 John 1:7-9).
Why did Jesus take our
sin burden upon Himself? Because of love. Love gladly carries
another’s burdens. The love of Christ was such that He gave His life
for us.
“Greater love has no one
than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends” (John 15:13 NKJV).
He loves you so much
that He wants to take your burden of sin from you. Won’t you accept His
offer through your trusting obedience?
